Our Story
Hyde Park Cats is a 501(c)(3) foster-based cat rescue that's been supporting Chicago's Hyde Park and surrounding neighborhoods since 2008. We work with our community to rescue distressed and abandoned cats through fostering, adoption, TNR, and the dedication of volunteers like YOU.
What We Do
Adoption
We rescue cats and kittens from the streets and from difficult situations, get them the vet care they need, and place them in loving foster homes until they find their forever families. Every cat available for adoption is fostered, not caged — so we get to know their personalities and help match them with the right home.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)
We support community-based TNR for Hyde Park's outdoor cat colonies. We believe it's the most humane and effective way to manage feral cat populations — cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their outdoor homes, where caretakers continue to feed and look out for them.
Fostering
Foster homes are the heart of our rescue. Without them, we couldn't save cats at all. Whether you can take in a mama and her kittens for a few weeks or a shy adult cat while he decompresses, fostering saves lives and opens up space for us to help the next cat in need.
Community Support
From connecting neighbors with low-cost spay/neuter resources to helping people find new homes for cats they can no longer keep, we try to be a resource for anyone in our community dealing with a cat-related question or crisis.
