All our adoptable kitties are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for FIV/FeLV, and microchipped. Prospective adopters must fill out our adoption application and pay an adoption fee.
The adoption fee is $150 for one cat or $250 for a pair.
Adoption Process:
See a cat you like? Request an adoption application and we’ll follow up an online application.
After the application is submitted, we’ll connect you with kitty’s foster parent. Meetings can occur virtually or in-person at the foster's home. Meet with as many cats as you like. If a specific kitty is meeting with another potential adopter, we'll add you to the waitlist.
When you’ve found your purrfect match, we will run a reference check and if approved, you’ll receive final adoption instructions.
Once adoption is finalized, the adopter and the foster will coordinate a pickup time. Then the fun begins!

Interested in adopting a kitten? Consider a pair!
Our policy is to place kittens under the age of six months in pairs or in a home with another cat. Additionally, some cats, due to their active or shy personalities, will only be placed in a home with other companion animals. Bonded cats keep each other emotionally, psychologically, and physically healthy for life.
We know everyone loves kittens, but there are also many compelling reasons to adopt an adult or a senior cat.

Can I foster-to-adopt to see if we're a good match?
We don’t have a formal foster-to-adopt system, but there are two options. You can adopt a cat first, and if the adoption doesn’t work out, we will always take the cat back. Alternatively, you can start by volunteering as a foster to experience what it’s like to live with, care for, and love our cats.
How long does the adoption process usually take?

It depends. Based on your application, we first introduce you to the foster of each cat you are interested in. You can then meet the cats virtually, in person, or both before making your decision.
I'd like to apply now, but I don't live in the Chicago area. What should I do?

You’re welcome to send us an inquiry anytime. Most of our adoptions are within the Chicago area, but we do consider exceptions. Please note that we are unable to deliver cats, so if you live outside the area and decide to adopt from us, you will need to arrange transportation yourself.
What if my resident cat(s) and the adopted cat don't "click"?

Compatibility among multiple cats can be unpredictable. If your resident cat(s) and newly adopted cat(s) don’t get along, you always have the option of returning the adopted cat to us.
We are a small, volunteer-based organization in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, and we do not have a central facility. All of our cats are in foster homes, so you can meet them virtually, in person, or both.

Can I adopt a kitten?
We do take cats into our program for re-homing. However, please be aware that the waitlist for an available foster home is currently long, and the placement process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. If you wish to proceed with surrendering your cat to HPC, there is a one-time $150 surrender fee, which covers any medical care the cat may need. Alternatively, if you can send us complete medical records that show the cat has been fully vetted (snap, microchip, etc) and is up to date on vaccines, the fee may be waived. Please note: We take any cats that were adopted from us back for free.
Can I surrender my cat to Hyde Park Cats?

We give our fosters priority when it comes to adoption. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in adopting your foster cat.
